1. INTRODUCTION
PictoWebP (“Company,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting it through our compliance with this Privacy Policy (“Policy”). This Policy describes the types of information we may collect from you or that you may provide when you visit the website pictowebp.com (our “Website”) and our practices for collecting, using, maintaining, protecting, and disclosing that information.
This Policy applies to information we collect on this Website and in email, text, and other electronic messages between you and this Website. It does not apply to information collected by us offline or through any other means, including on any other website operated by the Company or any third party.
Please read this Policy carefully to understand our policies and practices regarding your information and how we will treat it. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, your choice is not to use our Website. By accessing or using this Website, you agree to this Privacy Policy.
2. LOCAL PROCESSING OF PICTURES
THE COMPANY EXPRESSLY ACKNOWLEDGES AND REPRESENTS THAT ALL PICTURE-TO-WEBP CONVERSION OPERATIONS PERFORMED THROUGH THE SERVICE ARE EXECUTED LOCALLY ON YOUR DEVICE USING THE HTML5 CANVAS API IMPLEMENTED WITHIN YOUR WEB BROWSER. THE COMPANY DOES NOT RECEIVE, TRANSMIT, STORE, ACCESS, OR OTHERWISE PROCESS ANY PICTURES, IMAGE CONTENTS, OR IMAGE METADATA THAT YOU CONVERT USING THE SERVICE. YOUR PICTURES REMAIN EXCLUSIVELY ON YOUR DEVICE AT ALL TIMES DURING AND AFTER USE OF THE SERVICE.
3. INFORMATION WE COLLECT AND HOW WE COLLECT IT
We collect several types of information from and about users of our Website, including information:
- By which you may be personally identified, such as e-mail address, or any other identifier by which you may be contacted online or offline (“Personal Information”), but only if you voluntarily provide it to us through our contact form;
- That is about you but individually does not identify you, such as browser type, operating system, and device information; and
- About your internet connection, the equipment you use to access our Website, and usage details.
We collect this information:
- Directly from you when you provide it to us (e.g., through our contact form);
- Automatically as you navigate through the Website, including usage details, IP addresses, and information collected through cookies and other tracking technologies.
4. INFORMATION COLLECTED THROUGH AUTOMATIC DATA COLLECTION TECHNOLOGIES
As you navigate through and interact with our Website, we may use automatic data collection technologies to collect certain information about your equipment, browsing actions, and patterns, including:
- Details of your visits to our Website, including traffic data, location data, logs, and other communication data and the resources that you access and use on the Website;
- Information about your computer and internet connection, including your IP address, operating system, and browser type;
- Input image format types (e.g., .jpg, .png, .gif, .bmp, .tiff, .webp) of pictures you convert to WebP. We collect only the image format to improve our service and display relevant recommendations. We never collect, read, access, or transmit file names, image contents, pixel data, or any other image metadata. All image processing remains entirely on your device;
- Approximate geographic location (country-level only) derived from your IP address at the network edge, used to display regionally relevant sponsored recommendations. This information is stored as a temporary cookie on your device and is not linked to any personally identifiable information.
The information we collect automatically may include Personal Information, or we may maintain it or associate it with Personal Information we collect in other ways or receive from third parties. It helps us to improve our Website and to deliver a better and more personalized service, including by enabling us to estimate our audience size and usage patterns.
5. COOKIES, LOCAL STORAGE, AND TRACKING TECHNOLOGIES
The technologies we use for automatic data collection may include:
- Cookies (or browser cookies). A cookie is a small file placed on the hard drive of your computer. You may refuse to accept browser cookies by activating the appropriate setting on your browser. However, if you select this setting you may be unable to access certain parts of our Website. Unless you have adjusted your browser setting so that it will refuse cookies, our system will issue cookies when you direct your browser to our Website.
- Geolocation Cookie. We set a first-party cookie (“geo”) containing your country code (e.g., “US”), derived from your IP address at our network edge. This cookie expires after 24 hours and is used solely to display regionally relevant sponsored recommendations. It contains no personally identifiable information.
- Local Storage and Session Storage. We use your browser's local storage to remember preferences such as whether you have completed or dismissed our optional feedback survey and whether you have dismissed a sponsored recommendation. We use session storage to assign you to an A/B test variant for the duration of your visit, which determines the format of sponsored recommendations you may see. This data never leaves your browser and is not transmitted to any server.
6. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES AND SPONSORED PARTNERS
Some content or applications on the Website are served by or integrate with third-party services. These third parties may use cookies or other tracking technologies to collect information about you when you use our Website.
We use the following third-party services:
- Google Analytics: We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4), a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. (“Google”). GA4 uses cookies to help the Website analyze how users use the site. We send anonymous, aggregated event data to GA4 including conversion statistics (input file count, input and output file sizes, quality setting, size reduction, duration), input image format types, survey responses, and sponsored recommendation interactions (impressions, clicks, dismissals). No file names, image contents, pixel data, or personally identifiable information is included in these events. For more information regarding Google's privacy practices, please visit Google's Privacy Policy.
- Google AdSense: Our Website may include Google AdSense, which uses cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to our Website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our Website and/or other sites on the Internet. You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- Curated Affiliate Partners: We display manually selected sponsored recommendations from technology partners (such as image optimization, cloud storage, and security providers). These are not served by automated ad networks. When you click a sponsored recommendation, you are directed to the partner's website via an affiliate link. The partner may then collect information according to their own privacy policy. We collect anonymous click and impression data for these recommendations via Google Analytics.
- Vercel: Our Website is hosted by Vercel, which receives standard HTTP request data (IP address, user agent, referrer) for the purposes of serving the Website, abuse prevention, and capacity planning. Vercel never receives the contents of your pictures.
We do not control these third parties' tracking technologies or how they may be used. If you have any questions about an advertisement or other targeted content, you should contact the responsible provider directly.
7. SPONSORED RECOMMENDATIONS AND A/B TESTING
To keep PictoWebP free, we may display manually curated sponsored recommendations from technology partners. These recommendations are served contextually based on:
- Your approximate geographic location (country-level, derived from your IP address at the network edge);
- The types of pictures you are converting (based on input image format only, never image contents).
Our sponsored recommendations are selected by us, not by automated bidding systems. We may present these recommendations in different formats (e.g., inline banners or notification-style prompts) as part of A/B testing to determine which format provides the best user experience. Your format assignment is stored in your browser's session storage for the duration of your visit and is not transmitted to any server.
We collect anonymous, aggregated analytics on ad impressions, clicks, and dismissals to measure the effectiveness of these recommendations. This data includes the recommendation format shown, your country code, and the partner name, but is not linked to any personally identifiable information.
8. OPTIONAL FEEDBACK SURVEY
After completing a picture conversion, you may occasionally be shown an optional feedback survey. If you choose to participate, we collect:
- A satisfaction rating (1–5 scale);
- An optional free-text comment (limited to 100 characters).
This data is sent to Google Analytics as anonymous event data. We do not collect your name, email, or any identifying information through the survey. You may dismiss the survey at any time, and we will not show it again for at least 7 days. If you complete the survey, it will not be shown again.

- To contractors, service providers, and other third parties we use to support our business;
- To a buyer or other successor in the event of a merger, divestiture, restructuring, reorganization, dissolution, or other sale or transfer of some or all of the Company's assets;

- If we believe disclosure is necessary or appropriate to protect the rights, property, or safety of the Company, our customers, or others.
11. DATA SECURITY
We have implemented measures designed to secure your Personal Information from accidental loss and from unauthorized access, use, alteration, and disclosure. The safety and security of your information also depends on you. Where we have given you (or where you have chosen) a password for access to certain parts of our Website, you are responsible for keeping this password confidential. We ask you not to share your password with anyone.
Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we do our best to protect your Personal Information, we cannot guarantee the security of your Personal Information transmitted to our Website. Any transmission of Personal Information is at your own risk. We are not responsible for circumvention of any privacy settings or security measures contained on the Website.
12. DATA RETENTION
We will retain your Personal Information only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy. We will retain and use your Personal Information to the extent necessary to comply with our legal obligations (for example, if we are required to retain your data to comply with applicable laws), resolve disputes, and enforce our legal agreements and policies.
